Special Concerts
Joining chief conductor Semyon Bychkov for the opening concerts for a second time is the phenomenal pianist Daniil Trifonov, this time in the role of the season’s artist-in-residence. Petr Popelka will make his debut for our traditional Velvet Revolution Concerts, and Tomáš Netopil will lead four performances on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
To launch the new season, Dvořák’s Piano Concerto has been chosen to continue this year’s celebrations of the Year of Czech Music. Berlioz’s iconic Symphonie fantastique will follow, a piece which is seldom played in the Czech Republic. More Czech music will be celebrated in concerts led by Petr Popelka, who joins forces with violinist Josef Špaček and violist Antoine Tamestit; and Tomás Netopil who also joins forces with Špaček and cellist Ivan Vokáč. As per tradition Marek Eben will present the New Year’s Day concerts, and the season will close with the Czech Philharmonic’s annual Open Air Concert on Hradčany Square dedicated to the memory of Jiří Bělohlávek.
