The Chief Conductor of the Czech Philharmonic Semyon Byčkov underwent a planned hip surgery in mid-December after his American tour. Herbert Blomstedt and Nicholas Kraemer will take over the concerts in the second half of January. Bychkov will return to his orchestra in February.
"Noble, charming, understated, modest." This is how the legendary conductor Herbert Blomstedt is described by music critics and players of orchestras around the world. The American-born Swedish conductor, Koussevitzky Prize winner, former chief conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic, the Swedish and Danish Radio Orchestras and the Staatskapelle Dresden, will lead the concerts on 16, 17 and 18 January. The programme, performed by pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque, will conclude in the second half with Schubert's "Great" Symphony in C major.

After a successful debut, Nicholas Kraemer, a specialist in Baroque music, a pioneer of historically informed interpretation, and now principal guest conductor of the Music of the Baroque Orchestra in Chicago, returns to the Czech Philharmonic. Under his leadership, Bach's Mass in B minor will be performed on 22, 23 and 24 January, with the Collegium Vocale 1704 choir joining the orchestra.
