Conductor Charles Dutoit to open the 129th season

The Czech Philharmonic’s Chief Conductor and Music Director Semyon Bychkov has had to undergo back surgery which will require four weeks of recovery. He will return to the orchestra at the end of the October. To replace him, Charles Dutoit, one of the greatest experts on French and Russian music of the 19th and 20th centuries, will conduct the 129th Season Opening Concerts. Taking over the first subscription week of concerts will be Polish-German conductor Marek Janowski.

The programme for the 129th season opening concerts will remain unchanged. The Czech Philharmonic’s Artist-in-Residence Daniil Trifonov will perform Dvořák’s Piano Concerto for the first time in Prague. He will later join the orchestra on tour as part of Czech Week at New York’s Carnegie Hall in December marking the culmination of the Year of Czech Music 2024. The second part of the evening will feature Hector Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique.

For audiences unable to attend the 129th season opening, both concerts will be available to view by live stream.

The concert on 25 September will be broadcast by Czech Television on the ČT art channel from 8.15pm (CET). The second concert on 26 September will be available to view via STAGE+ on-line.
